Kimi Coding Plan: membership, API, or a hybrid route?

Kimi Coding Plan and Kimi Code are routes for coding work. Subscription versus API is not a unit-price contest: coding frequency, quota, tool choice and automation all matter. You can keep Claude for selected work and move only part of coding execution to Kimi.

Standard vs HighSpeed

Both use the same coding model. Kimi says HighSpeed produces output about 5–6× faster and consumes about 3× the credits; it requires Allegretto or above.

5-hour and weekly limits

Kimi describes roughly 300–1,200 requests per rolling 5-hour window by plan, up to 30 concurrent streams, plus a weekly quota that refreshes every seven days.

Shared usage boundary

Kimi Code currently draws from membership credits while retaining its own 5-hour and weekly limits. CLI, VS Code and supported third-party requests count toward Kimi Code usage.

Kimi says a new membership system is coming in which general membership benefits and Kimi Code benefits will be sold separately. Current subscribers are described as unaffected, but the live subscription page should decide any purchase.

Kimi with Claude Code

The harness and the backend are two layers

Kimi currently lists Kimi Code CLI, Claude Code and Roo Code as supported tools for the Kimi Code benefit. Its membership guide also documents the Kimi Code VS Code experience.

When Claude Code is configured with a Kimi Code key and endpoint, Claude Code remains the terminal harness while Kimi supplies the model backend and usage route. “Use Kimi in Claude Code” does not mean an Anthropic Claude model is still processing the request.

Do not assume an unlisted client is covered by the subscription policy. Kimi warns that use outside its supported-tool list may be treated as misuse.
